How to Install Apps from the Windows Store in Windows

Install Apps from the Windows Store

Much like Apple's App Store or Google's Play Store, access the Microsoft Store to find and install new apps for your computer. Any apps downloaded from the Microsoft Store are compatible with Tablet Mode and can be automatically updated through the Store.

Install an App

  1. Click the Store icon.

The Home section of the Microsoft Store provides a curated list of featured apps and a variety of categories.

  2. Click the store Search field and search for a specific app.
  3. Click an app to view details about it.
    Install apps.

The app's price, screenshots, reviews, and similar apps appear.

Some apps, while free, may contain in-app purchases.

  4. Click the Get button (if free) or Buy button to download an app.
    Install apps.

Free apps download immediately. All apps install immediately after downloading.

Click Buy to confirm the purchase, if prompted. Paid apps require confirmation prior to purchasing.

  5. Click Launch to open the app.
    Install apps.

A caption titled New appears in your Start menu by newly-installed apps.
