How to Use Mentions and Topics in Salesforce

Mentions and Topics

When you post to chatter you can mention individual Salesforce users or groups to keep them informed of the post. The post will appear on their Chatter feed, and depending on their Chatter email notifications, they will also receive an email about the post.

Mention a Person in a Post

  1. Type the @ symbol somewhere in your Chatter post and then start typing the person's name.

    A list of matching names will appear below the post.

  2. Select the person you want to mention.

    Their bracketed completed name will appear in the post.

  3. Complete the post and click Share.

The person or group you mentioned will be notified about your post.

Add a Topic to a Post

You can add hashtags, or topics, to your Chatter posts to help organize them and increase their visibility.

  1. Type the # symbol somewhere in your Chatter post and start typing the topic name.

    A list of matching topics appears.

  2. Select the topic you want to mention if it appears, or enter a topic name to add a new topic.

  3. Complete the post and click Share.

The topic appears at the bottom of your post.

View a Topic

  1. Click the topic you want to view.

The topic opens.

View Lists of Topics

You can use topics to explore more posts.

  1. Click the Chatter tab.
  2. Click the Topics heading.
  3. View Lists of Topics

From here you can browse the topics that interest you.
