Screen Clippings

You can use a screen clipping to capture something from another open program on your computer. Let's see how it's done.

  1. Click the Insert tab.
  2. Click Screen Clipping.

    The OneNote window is minimized revealing the open window behind it. Also, notice that the cursor is now a crosshair.

  3. Click and drag over an area on the screen.

    When you release the mouse, OneNote fills the screen once again and your clipping is added to the current page.

  4. Edit the clipping as needed.

Any screen clippings you take appear in a box and can be moved and resized just like any other note.

When you are working in another Windows program and realize there's something on the screen you want to clip, you can do so without going back to OneNote.

  1. Navigate to the screen where you want to take a clipping.
  2. Click the Show hidden icons icon in the Windows System Tray.
  3. Right-click the Send to OneNote icon.
  4. Select Take screen clipping.

  5. Click and drag over an area on the screen.

    This time when the mouse is released a dialog box appears.

  6. Expand a notebook.
  7. Expand a section.
  8. Select the page where you want to put the clipping.
  9. Send to Selected Location.

  11. Click the OneNote button on the Taskbar.
