How to Use Multiple Profiles in Google Chrome

Use Multiple Profiles

Chrome allows you to add multiple profiles, each with its own set of bookmarks, saved passwords, and browsing history. You can use multiple Chrome profiles so that different people can share the same computer, or even for you to keep two separate sets of bookmarks for work and personal browsing.

The profile you're currently using is represented by the icon next to the vertical ellipsis button.

Add a Profile

  1. Click the profile icon button.
  2. Select Add.
    Add a Profile
  3. Enter a profile name.
  4. Select a profile icon.
  5. Click Add.

Change Profiles

  1. Click the profile icon button.
  2. The Guest profile also appears. You can use this profile as a temporary one, and all of its data is erased once its window is closed.

  3. Select a profile.

Enable Google Account Sync

Finally, you can sync a profile to a Google account. This allows bookmarks, passwords, and history to appear on every device that the account is synced to.

  1. Click the profile icon button.
  2. Select Turn on sync.
    Enable Google Account Sync
  3. Enter your account's email address, then click Next.
    Enable Google Account Sync
  4. Enter your account's password, then click Next.
    Enable Google Account Sync
  5. If you're signing in using a Google account that's part of an organization, you need to acknowledge that you won't be able to unlink this profile's data to use with another account later.

  6. Click Link data (if necessary).
    Enable Google Account Sync
  7. Click Yes, I'm in.
    Enable Google Account Sync

Once you start syncing, you'll be able to access your account's bookmarks, history, and saved passwords. Your profile icon will also change to your Google account photo, if you have one.
